The nitrate reducing formulation of Bio-2000 was added to four swine lagoons at the recommended application rate. Samples of each lagoon were taken before treatment and 34 days after treatment. The size of the lagoons and number of sows at each site are shown in Table 1.

Samples were taken 34 days after treatment and shipped to an independent laboratory for analysis. Sample were analyzed for total kjeldahl nitrogen (TKN), nitrates, nitrites, ammonia and N, P and K values according to standard procedures.

RESULTS:

The addition of the Bio-2000 Nitrate Reducing Formula reduced the nitrogen available for first crop by 15 to 43% in 34 days compared to levels of available nitrogen before treatment (Table 2).

Bio-2000 Nitrate Reducing Formula reduced TKN and ammonia concentrations in all lagoons and nitrate concentrations in three of the four lagoons (Table 3). The nitrate concentration in all lagoons was less than 0.01 ppm.
